Dolly's Dream welcomes today's announcement from the NSW Government by Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning, Prue Car, with plans to develop strategies, policies, and procedures to combat bullying in schools across NSW.
Last year, Kate and Tick Everett, founders of Dolly’s Dream, had the opportunity to meet with Minister Car. During their conversation, they were encouraged by her genuine dedication to creating lasting change in how bullying is addressed in schools. This meeting, along with many others with policymakers over the years, gave them hope that significant progress was on the horizon.
For the past six years, Dolly’s Dream has worked tirelessly to combat bullying across Australia – in schools and the wider community - driven by the tragic loss of Dolly Everett and the commitment to prevent other families from facing similar heartbreak. Unfortunately, with the recent loss of more precious lives to bullying, that hasn’t been the case.
Today, hearing plans from the NSW Government to unite public, Catholic, and private schools in a comprehensive approach to combat bullying is a meaningful step forward, and Kate and Tick are thrilled to see this progress.
Dolly’s Dream supports these collaborative efforts to protect children and young people and empower every school to be a safer, more inclusive environment for every student.
We look forward to hearing the outcomes from the convening of the NSW Schools Advisory Council on December 5. Our hope is that by bringing together representatives from across diverse school communities, we see the development of a framework with consistent, effective measures that ensure every child and young person feels supported, protected and valued – and is free from bullying.
Dolly’s Dream remains committed to changing the culture of bullying by addressing the impact of bullying, anxiety, depression and youth suicide, through education and direct support to young people and families.
